Oslo, the capital of Norway, sits on the country’s southern coast at the head of the Oslofjord. It’s known for its green spaces and museums. Many of these are on the Bygdøy Peninsula, including the waterside Norwegian Maritime Museum and the Viking Ship Museum, with Viking ships from the 9th century. The Holmenkollbakken is a ski-jumping hill with panoramic views of the fjord. It also has a ski museum.

Prepare for check out and make your way to the train station and board the Dovrebanen train for a scenic ride over the Dovre mountain plateau through historic towns and nature reserves. As the second highest line after the Bergen Railway, the Dovre Railway includes great variations in terrain and altitude. In Dombås you will change trains for the Raumabanen Railway, often referred as the most spectacular line in Norway with endless sights to enjoy, including the "chicken bridge" and the Vermafossen waterfall. On arrival to Åndalsnes you will take a bus for 2 hours to Ålesund.

Ålesund is a port town on the west coast of Norway, at the entrance to the Geirangerfjord. It’s known for the art nouveau architectural style in which most of the town was rebuilt after a fire in 1904, as documented at the Jugendstilsenteret museum. There are panoramic views of Ålesund’s architecture, the surrounding archipelago and fjords from the Mount Aksla lookout.

Overnight in Alesund.

The cruise, which is 3-hours each way, includes a stop in Geiranger village for a few hours. Geiranger is as idyllic a location as you can imagine, with lush scenery and well-maintained walking trails.

In the late afternoon you will take the boat back to Ålesund. We recommend visiting one of the restaurants in town. Later in the evening you can relax at the Milk bar and lounge which is located close to the Hurtigruten harbor where the cruise departs shortly after midnight. You can board the cruise on a private cabin.

Overnight on board the Hurtigruten

During the night, the ship calls at Torvik, Maløy, and Florø as the journey weaves through islets and stunning landscapes before coming within view of its final destination—Bergen. Here you will disembark the ship at 14:30 to enjoy some leisure time. Bergen, “The Capital of the Fjords”, has all the charms of a small town. Here you’ll find Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site, along with remarkably preserved old houses, a lively fish and flower market, cable cars offering stunning views, great museums and more. We recommend riding the Fløibanen Funicular to Mount Fløyen to enjoy the panoramic view of the city or a cable car up Mt. Ulriken. Bergen is surrounded by 7 mountains so a good place for hiking.

Bergen is a city on Norway’s southwestern coast. It's surrounded by mountains and fjords, including Sognefjord, the country’s longest and deepest. Bryggen features colorful wooden houses on the old wharf, once a center of the Hanseatic League's trading empire. The Fløibanen Funicular goes up Fløyen Mountain for panoramic views and hiking trails. The Edvard Grieg House is where the renowned composer once lived.

Breakfast at the hotel.

Today will be an especially scenic day with a lot of travel. From Bergen, the early Bergensbanen train transports you to Voss, where you’ll be transported by bus down Stalheimskleiva, Northern Europe’s steepest stretch of road. After a thrilling ride around 13 hairpin bends, you will continue to Gudvangen. There, you will embark on a scenic 2-hour fjord cruise to Flåm, including a trip through Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in all of Europe. This UNESCO World Heritage site is perhaps the most breathtaking part of Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, with its mighty peaks, tumbling waterfalls, and small farms dotting the mountainsides. Finally, the boat sails up Aurlandsfjord to Flåm, a charming village, where you will spend the evening. (We recommend booking luggage transfer for the travel between Bergen and Oslo.)

Flåm is a village in southwestern Norway, in an area known for its fjords. It sits at the end of Aurlandsfjord, a branch of the vast Sognefjord. The dramatic Stegastein viewing platform juts out high above the Aurlandsfjord. South of Flåm Harbor, the 17th-century wooden Flåm Church lies in the valley. The Flåm Railway offers valley and waterfall views as it climbs to a station on the Hardangervidda plateau.
